Salicylideneaniline, with special property, has been reported to undergo proton transfer in excited state. Researchers from National Autonomous University of Mexico investigated into this issue and concluded that the decrease in aromaticity upon being excited allows an electron redistribution and allow the proton transfer happen in the excited state. In this paper, we are keen on seeing how changing aromaticity of a new salicylideneaniline derivate could contribute to the proton transfer process in excited state. Interestingly, we found out the new compound can undergo proton transfer in ground state very easily. Experimental and theoretical calculation were performed to explain this bizarre phenomenon.
